We would like to take a moment to thank Barack Obama for helping to raise awareness about Aleister Crowley in the lead-up to the 2012 election.
[EDIT: Welcome to visitors from Snopes! Please ask the editors there to also address the “Aleister Crowley was Barbara Bush’s Father” hoax!]
Barack Obama was photographed wearing an Aleister Crowley 2012 t-shirt recently, showing remarkable sportsmanship in the campaign for the office of U.S. President. As Aleister Crowley wrote in “Concerning the Law of Thelema“:
“… you ask, ‘How is the Law to be fulfilled in the case of two boys who want to eat the same orange?’ But since only one boy (at most) can eat the orange, it is evident that one of them is mistaken in supposing that it is essential to his Will to eat it. The question is to be decided in the good old way by fighting for it. All that we ask is that the fighting should be done chivalrously, with respect to the courage of the vanquished. ‘As brothers fight ye!’ In other words, there is only this difference from our present state of society, that manners are improved.”
Check out our earlier posts where we have thanked other figures in pop culture for their recent mentions of Aleister Crowley, including Frank Zappa, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Russell Brand, Steven Tyler, and Kevin Jonas.
Update! April 2, 2012:
For those of you who think this is a hoax or fake, and have looked in vain for some mention of it on Snopes, it looks like someone has done some research and found possible evidence that this is a real photo of Obama wearing an Aleister Crowley t-shirt.
